Good afternoon, friends! Welcome! Today's blog post is going to showcase my favorite poses during our time together. If you're here on the blog, you may be pregnant and are looking for the best Houston newborn photographer. Well, you're in luck: I photograph the cutest babies in town and joyfully offer modern collections to fit your needs. I am digital based meaning you pay one flat rate for time, talent, session design, retouching, and a gorgeous gallery of images for you to download, share, enjoy and print on your own. The process is simple and straight forward to fit the lives of busy parents.
Allow me to introduce this sweet baby girl named Luna. I first met her gorgeous mama when she visited my studio for an in studio maternity session when she was around 32 weeks along. Once baby arrived, I sent Mom three dates to pick from that fit into the first 14 days of life. Luna was about a week and a half old when she visited for a newborn collection; Mom and Dad came from Porter, Texas. With the 99, however, they were able to get here in a little over half an hour, so that's one thing about my studio I adore: it's conveniently located so that parents are able to travel efficiently.
Beautiful Baby Luna has the most stunning features; at 8 pounds she's the perfect squish and I marveled at her full head of hair. I am the luckiest Houston Newborn Photographer! I spend my days wrapping sweet cherubs, hanging out with awesome parents, and loving every minute of it. This is truly my dream and I cannot wait to work with you! I have three little girls of my own named Lucy, Emma and Amelia; feel free to read more about my family here. Also, we're having our first boy this winter so I am stoked to share our pregnancy announcement with you. This in mind, as a mama, I cannot express how special the newborn time is and this is partly why I specialize in baby portraits; you will never regret these images!
Pose Number One: Froggy AKA Head in Hands
The froggy pose is a composite, which means we merge two or more photos together in processing through the help of editing software called Photoshop. The image you see here, right below, is the final blending of two photos. Underneath this picture, however, you can see one photo where I am holding Luna's head; the other photo I am holding her chin. She is never suspended in air. While babies are precious and this pose is super popular with parents, newborn safety is top priority and your baby's well being is of the utmost importance to me. I cannot stress how much I respect your baby and our time together.
Here are the images I chose to merge:
Pose Number Two: Bum Up
The "bum up" or "tooshie" pose is where we show off all these adorable rolls. It's also modest but still naked, since many parents like the photos of baby to be nude. I also ensure we capture different angles here; I can add a wrap or swap out a headband, too, depending on the design of your session.
Pose Number Three: Taco AKA Womb
This pose is called taco or womb; here are the folded in half like a taco shell or more so head down how they are in the womb. This is the way they grow and they often adore being in this pose since it is familiar. Newborn sessions do take place in the first 14 days of life because this is when baby is still curly and moldable.
Pose Number Four: Timber
The timber pose is also called "soft taco", too, since we go straight into timber from froggy, which was previewed above. I adore the way baby's hands are gently placed on her face - it is truly precious!
Pose Number Five: Side Sleeper
Oh, side sleeper! This pose is truly timeless and really laid back. While it looks effortless, this pose often can take about 20 minutes to achieve since baby is naked here. If baby does not enjoy being naked, I'll wrap her top half, shown below, so she feels safe and secure. This is because wrapping mimics the womb and makes baby feel like something is hugging them.
Pose Number Six: All Tucked In
All "tucked in" is typically done early on in the session but is really a fun pose since there's nothing sweeter than a new baby peacefully slumbeirng.
Pose Number 7: Bucket
Of all the poses, bucket is probably my absolute favorite! The reasoning is simple: vintage inspired floor props and rustic floors truly make my heart sing. I do a bucket pose with each newborn who comes into my studio. Bucket can be done on belly or back, too. You can see both options below.
Pose Number 8: Potato
Like bucket, seen above, potato is done in each and every single session I do. I have a plethora of wraps and like the set up to be monochromatic; this means, for instance, if baby's wrap is mint, shown below, then I pull a matching mint bonnet, head band and flokati.
Pose Number 9: Asleep on Back AKA Straight jacket Wrapping
Finally, straight jacket is a great pose because it shows off the curly nature of baby but also is done early on in the session, typically right before "all tucked in". I wrap baby so she is snugly and sleeps beautifully for me. You're able to achieve a ton of variety through the use of unique, cozy wrapping and this adds tons of soul to your final gallery. The nice part of wrapping is while the naked bean bag posing is super cute, the truth is not every baby enjoys being naked. Your baby's well being is very important during the session so this gives a well rounded gallery without baby being upset.
