Outdoor & Natural Light Cake Smash | County Fair Theme

Howdy, friends! Welcome to my blog! Today's post focuses on adorable children's cake smash session as well as the family portion of his one year photography session. As a photographer, I do specialize in newborn portraits, however, I offer a limited number of outdoor, natural light family photography appointments as well as darling children's portraits for your little ones, too. :-) Today's post is all about a super sweet family! We used one of my favorite locations in Cypress, but the parents were total rock stars and came from Pearland. The good thing about Houston is that we have many major highways so traveling is generally pretty easy. 

For this cake smash + family session combination, Mom told me baby's birthday party theme is a county fair so she wanted to incorporate that into his cake smash. I am a prop minimalist so that baby may be the focus; we used a vintage high chair, a cute set of balloons and then a sign Mom brought. The star of the smash is Baby but a cute cherry pie is what we used to smash. So cute! Simple, easy details. Moms: don't make things harder than they need to be. This is something I cannot stress enough.

Outdoor Family Photography | Sweet Baby Boy & His Doting Parents

This portion of the session was a lot of fun for me to document because family connections are everything. As a mama, I can tell you how special it is to have images of your entire family interacting. I like my family portrait sessions to be lifestyle in nature meaning you cuddle, kiss, toss baby into the air. Everything should feel warm and natural. Be who you are. Enjoy being with your spouse and children. This time is sacred and these sweet memories will be truly wonderful to look back on and admire! My sessions take place specifically at sunrise or sunset; in this case, we shot at sunset since the location faces east. The stunning, golden light adds much warmth to the images and emphasises love. Truly my favorite time of the day!

She visited at around 9 days new and is absolutely a true gem! Her parents booked the popular petite newborn collection, which is a really lovely option for parents who are looking for a little bit of everything. This includes family photos, images of Mom with Baby, Dad with Baby, several custom set ups featuring baby, and more! Custom set ups, if you're wondering, are designed with unique aspects in mind. For instance, I ask myself, "How will this color photograph? Have I used this before? What headbands looks nice with this bucket? How can I ensure the session is unique?" You see - I specialize in newborns, which means 99.99 percent of the sessions I take are new babies. I do take a handful of baby plans/maternity sessions, but I have a succinct focus on tiny, fresh new babies who are 2 weeks or less when they visit.

For my time with this family, we focused on all things sweet and simple; as always, I use a plethora of gorgeous wrapping to reflect the womblike posing I adore. I also pulled many vintage props because they create a classic tone. I'm inspired by textiles, texture, and creating stunning art pieces of your most precious love: your brand new baby.
